30-Day Typing Challenge: From Beginner to 60+ WPM
Many adults start at a modest typing speed (around 35–45 WPM) and dream of reaching true productivity levels (~60+ WPM). Orangetype highlights a 30-day challenge designed for this goal.
Here’s an outline to replicate that success:
- Days 1–7 (Week 1): Focus on technique and accuracy. Spend time on home-row drills and accuracy exercises. Use Orangetype’s accuracy tests to identify weak keys. Keep your speed moderate and minimize errors.
- Days 8–14 (Week 2): Start timed testing. Do 1–3 minute typing tests each day and record your WPM and accuracy. Begin with simple text passages. Set small goals (e.g. increase by 5 WPM this week).
- Days 15–21 (Week 3): Increase difficulty. Practice with longer paragraphs or code. Gradually push for higher speed in tests, but keep error rate low. Continue daily typing sessions.
- Days 22–30 (Week 4): Consolidate gains. Alternate between timed high-speed tests and accuracy drills. By now, aim to exceed 60 WPM in short bursts. On the final day, take a longer (5-minute) test to measure your progress.
Throughout the challenge, apply the general tips from our previous post: touch-type without looking, maintain good posture, and take short breaks when needed.
Use Orangetype or similar platforms for structured feedback. According to Orangetype’s research, this regimen has helped beginners double their speed. By day 30, you should see both higher WPM and confidence at the keyboard.
